Instagram Engagement Rate Calculator

Followers, likes, comments, saves, shares. You get the rate per post and what it means.

An engagement rate calculator turns the raw numbers of an Instagram account into one figure you can compare. Enter the followers, the likes and comments of one or several posts, saves and shares if you have them, and this Instagram engagement rate calculator returns the interactions per post divided by followers, in percent, with a reading against the usual ranges: under 0.5% is low, 0.5 to 1.5% average, 1.5 to 3% good, above 3% excellent. No login, nothing sent.

How do you use the engagement rate calculator?

  1. Enter the number of followers of the account, as shown on the profile.
  2. Enter the likes and comments. For one post, its own figures; for several posts, the totals, and say how many posts they cover in the last field.
  3. Add saves and shares if you have them; both are optional. They appear in the insights of a professional account under each post.
  4. Compute. The rate appears with two decimals at most, and a sentence says which range it falls in.

Ten posts give a steadier figure than one: a single post can be a hit or a miss. Leave saves and shares empty if you cannot see them; the rate stays comparable with figures computed the same way.

How is the Instagram engagement rate calculated?

The calculator uses the engagement rate by followers: (likes + comments + saves + shares) per post, divided by followers, times 100. With 10,000 followers and 10 posts totaling 3,200 likes, 180 comments and 120 saves, the interactions per post are 350 and the rate is 3.5%.

It is the definition most published benchmarks use, which is why the result can be read against them. The other common definition, the rate by reach, divides by the accounts a post actually reached and is always higher, since reach is smaller than the follower count. Check which definition a figure uses before comparing.

What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?

Between 1.5% and 3% is good, and above 3% is excellent for most accounts. The four ranges the calculator reports are indicative, drawn from the ranges published benchmarks report for Instagram accounts:

  • Under 0.5%: low. The audience does not react, or no longer sees the posts.
  • 0.5% to 1.5%: average. Where most brand accounts with tens of thousands of followers sit.
  • 1.5% to 3%: good. The audience is active.
  • Above 3%: excellent. Typical of small accounts with a close community.

Engagement rate falls as an account grows: 6% is normal at 2,000 followers, and 1.5% is doing well at 500,000. Compare your rate with accounts of your size and sector, not with one figure for all of Instagram.

How do you raise the engagement rate?

By getting more interactions per post from the followers you have. In practice:

  • Post what gets saved and shared, not only liked: a guide, a checklist, a before-and-after. Saves and shares count as much as likes in the rate.
  • Ask a question in the caption and answer the comments; a reply is a comment too.
  • Use hashtags that describe the post, so the people reached are the ones likely to react; the Instagram hashtag generator proposes a set from a one-line description.
  • Run a giveaway. A comment giveaway can multiply the comments of a post by 10 or more; the giveaway entries estimator puts a figure on it for your account. When it ends, the Lukky app draws the winner from the comments through the official Meta authorization, with a public certificate; more than 2.5 million draws have been run with it.

Recompute a month later on the same number of posts; the comparison means more than the figure.

FAQ

What is the formula for engagement rate?
Interactions per post divided by followers, times 100, where interactions are likes plus comments plus saves plus shares. With 350 interactions per post and 10,000 followers, the rate is 3.5%.
Should I include saves and shares?
Yes if you can see them, in the insights of a professional account. If you cannot, leave them empty; the rate will be a little lower but comparable with figures computed from likes and comments only.
How many posts should I count?
Ten recent posts give a steady figure; one post tells you about that post. Enter the totals and the number of posts they cover, and the calculator averages.
Why is my rate lower than my reach rate?
Because reach is smaller than the follower count. A post reaching 30% of followers with 300 interactions gives 1% by followers and 3.3% by reach.
Does the calculator connect to my Instagram account?
No. You type the figures and the calculation runs in your browser. Nothing is sent, nothing is stored.
