The best time to launch a giveaway is the one that lets it close on a day people are online and still leaves a week to ship the prize. This tool works it out: say who you sell to, whether the giveaway is tied to an occasion, and how many days it runs. You get a launch date, a posting hour and a closing date, next to the days and hours 154,085 real draws happened on Lukky between September 2025 and August 2026.
What day of the week do giveaways end?
Monday, Sunday and Friday. Share of draws by weekday on Lukky, September 2025 – August 2026, 154,085 draws, in UTC: Monday 16.7%, Tuesday 12.8%, Wednesday 13.9%, Thursday 13.4%, Friday 15.1%, Saturday 12.1%, Sunday 16.0%. Saturday and Tuesday are the quietest.
A draw day is the day a giveaway closes, not the day it starts. So organisers close on Sunday or Monday, once the weekend has brought the last entries, and on Friday, before it. The chart under the calculator shows these seven figures.
What time of day do giveaways end?
In the evening. On a sample of 12 weeks spread over the year, 43,569 draws, Paris time: 34% of draws happen between 18:00 and 21:59, with a peak at 20:00 (9.4%) and another at 18:00 (9.2%). The morning slot, 09:00 to 11:59, takes 23%; the night, 01:00 to 06:59, 4%. The evening peak is there in 11 of the 12 weeks; a morning peak at 9 to 10 shows up in January and August.
Which month has the most giveaways?
December, by a wide margin. December alone accounts for 33% of the year's draws: 51,329 of 154,085. The week of December 22 saw 16,745 draws against about 2,000 in a normal week; the week of December 8, 11,754. November, with Black Friday, adds 13,756 for the month. The week of February 9, around Valentine's Day, reaches 6,352 draws, about three times a normal week. July and August are the quietest months, with 6,504 and about 4,300 draws.

How do you use the calculator?
- Say who you sell to: local customers (shop, restaurant, salon), online shoppers, a creator's audience, or professionals (B2B).
- Tie it to an occasion if there is one: Christmas, Black Friday, Halloween, Valentine's Day or Mother's Day. Otherwise leave "no particular occasion".
- Set the duration in days, from 1 to 30. Seven is the default.
- Press Find the moment. You get the launch date, the hour to post, and the closing and draw date.
How does it choose the dates?
With no occasion, the launch is the next preferred weekday at least two days out, so you have time to prepare the post. Those weekdays and hours are editorial recommendations, not measurements: local shops Tuesday at 18:30, so the giveaway runs into the weekend they sell on; online shops Thursday at 19:00; creators Sunday at 20:00; B2B Tuesday at 08:30. The closing date is the launch plus the duration.
With an occasion, the calculator starts from the end. The draw is placed at least 7 days before the occasion, so a physical prize can still be shipped and received; the launch is the closing date minus the duration, pulled back to the preferred weekday, never forward past the deadline. If the occasion is too close to fit the giveaway, the shipping week and two days of preparation, it targets next year's.
The dates it uses: December 25; the fourth Friday of November; October 31; February 14; and the last Sunday of May for Mother's Day, the French date. The United States and Brazil use the second Sunday of May, Mexico May 10: adjust if you sell there.
Before you launch
The entries estimator tells you how many people to expect from your follower count; the giveaway ideas generator and the caption generator help with the prize and the post. On closing day, Lukky reads the comments through the official Instagram or Facebook authorisation, removes duplicates and excluded accounts, draws at random and issues a public certificate your entrants can check.
FAQ
- What is the best day to launch an Instagram giveaway?
- Launch so that it closes on a Sunday, Monday or Friday, the days that hold 16.0%, 16.7% and 15.1% of Lukky draws over 12 months. Saturday (12.1%) and Tuesday (12.8%) are the quietest closing days.
- What is the best time to post a giveaway?
- The evening: 34% of draws on Lukky happen between 18:00 and 21:59, Paris time, with a peak at 20:00. A morning slot at 9 to 10 also works, especially in January and August.
- How long should a giveaway run?
- Seven days by default. Entries accumulate fast in the first days then flatten, so a week captures most of what a month would; under three days leaves entries on the table.
- Why does the calculator close a week before the occasion?
- So a physical prize can be shipped and received before the day. A gift that arrives after Christmas misses the point; if you ship a digital prize, you can move the draw closer.
